Meat Market

About Meat Market

The authoritative halal restaurant data layer for the United States, with global expansion on the roadmap.

Our Mission

Today, finding good halal food means piecing together Instagram food pages, Google searches, and Facebook groups. A blogger might review one place, a community group might mention a new spot, but those posts are buried within days. None of these sources are organized, searchable, or consistently updated, and they are especially unhelpful when you need to compare options, plan a group outing, or find halal stops along a road trip.

Meat Market exists to solve this. Every venue in our dataset goes through a multi-step review process and is tagged with the distinctions that actually matter: halal status, zabiha sourcing, cuisine type, and more. That structured tagging is what makes the data useful not just for consumers, but for developers, AI agents, and third-party tools that need reliable halal data they can query, filter, and build on.

What We're Building

A curated dataset paired with a conversational search interface, designed for both consumers and the AI agents and applications that need reliable, structured halal dining data.

Curated dataset

Every venue classified by halal status, cuisine, neighborhood, and more. Houston is live today with US-wide coverage actively expanding.

Conversational search

A planning engine that lets users search, compare, and check live hours through natural conversation instead of filters and forms.

Group planning

Plan a group outing where everyone is coming from a different part of town. Meat Market finds the best meeting point, builds a shareable plan, and lets the group vote on venues.

Route corridor search

Traveling between cities or across town? Search for halal restaurants along your actual driving route, not just near your destination.

Halal verification

Check any restaurant in the United States. We cross-reference multiple sources to give you a clear verdict, not a guess.

Business Model

Meat Market is free for consumers and always will be. There is no paywall, no subscription required, and no account needed to search, compare, or verify venues.

Revenue comes from the restaurant side. Halal restaurants can claim and manage their listing, giving them visibility within a high-intent, verified audience. Consumer-facing features will always remain free.

How It Started

Meat Market started as a side project. While building an engineering-as-SEO tool for a biryani business, I created a directory of Houston halal restaurants presented in a stock market simulation format. People found it genuinely useful, but the feedback was consistent: they wanted a conversational way to search, not just a directory to browse.

That feedback made me step back and look at the bigger picture. The real value was not the interface. It was the data underneath: aggregated, filtered, cleaned, and structured halal restaurant information that did not exist anywhere else in one place. For millions of people navigating halal dining in countries where halal options are not the default, this kind of structured data layer could change how they find, compare, and plan meals. That is what Meat Market is becoming.
